My Top 20 Songs of 2012 #15: Hot Chip – ‘Don’t Deny Your Heart’

Is there a more underrated pop group in the world right now than Hot Chip? In short, no. Hot Chip have been unfairly categorized as fanboy geeks with arched eyebrows. Fanboys? Yes. Geeks? Hardly. Arched eyebrows? Get out. Seriously, there’s the door. Be gone.

Don’t Deny Your Heart is a glorious pop song. It’s cut from the cloth of an early 1980’s Nile Rodgers song and it’s so unashamedly open-hearted that it’s impossible not to fall for its charms. It’s not just a reminder of the best some of the 80’s pop songs; it’s also a great pop song in its own right. It’s not even the best song on their album. With songs like this Hot Chip deserve to be one of the biggest bands on the planet.

Oh, and the Peter Serafinowicz video is brilliant in its, ahem, gay abandon.
